Ellery Eskelin

The tunes are all bar-b-q specials from the greasy cookbooks of Gene Ammons, Harold Vick, and Jack McDuff, but especially Ammons, whose homage comes specifically in Eskelin's gruff, grizzled tone and buzzsaw licks. It takes two or three tracks to acclimatize, but the trio kicks this material around good-naturedly until one feels at home in a distorted language.
