This splendid edition (2-CD, 20 page full-color booklet, filled with visual anecdotes) includes a previously unreleased recording, "Aurora Giapponese". "If Live In Japan contains playing as free and aggressive as anything Pieranunzi has recorded, it also offers his distinctive, clarified, luminous lyricism. "If Only For A Time" and "When I Think Of You" make you sit very still in your chair. (Marc Johnson's solos are rapt.)
