A surreal plunge into Italian free jazz, Swimming Pool Orchestra transforms the recording studio into a stage of playful chaos. Schiano and Vittorini, two of the most inventive voices of the Roman avant garde, use saxophones, pianos, toys, whistles, bicycles, and even kitchen pots to blur the line between music and theater. The album unfolds like a sonic play: musicians locked in a crumbling studio, pipes leaking, arguments rising, until the space itself metaphorically floods. Standards like Georgia on My Mind and Some of These Days are dismantled and re imagined alongside originals such as Grizzly and ‘O Vero Free, sung by Trottolino in Neapolitan dialect. Released on Dischi Della Quercia, this “disco spettacolo” captures the humor, provocation, and boundless imagination of Italian free jazz at its most daring.
