More Monk

"It takes a special talent to get away with reinterpreting the highly individual and challenging music of Thelonious Monk. It also takes a special bravery to perform and record solo.  To combine the two challenges may seem to be recklessly inviting  hazard, but Steve Lacy is a musician who not only thrives on challenge, he is also well qualified to meet both of these. No jazz musician (pianists aside) has performed or recorded solo more frequently than Mr. Lacy. No musician has such a special affinity for the works of Thelonious Monk-- and particularly their inherent wit and fun.  Mr. Lacy explains: "I keep going back to Monk's works because I always find some new things in them."
