"These guys are all skilled at more traditional jazz modes, but unafraid to jump into the abyss. This is a wonderful set, with two Lacy tunes (Dutch Masters, and Utah, where the ensemble literally sings), two from Mengelberg (Reef and Kneebus), and a masterful read of Monk's Off Minor and (Ellington? Herbie Nichols?)'s Hornin' In. As on many recordings, trombonist George Lewis steals the show. But the whole ensemble really shines. A personal favorite." (source: eMusic.com, C. Broderick)
